Star Trek XII To Reflect Contemporary Issues

Star Trek XII To Reflect Contemporary Issues

Now that the Star Trek characters have been established in the first film, J. J. Abrams would like to make a movie that deals with modern-day issues.

There have been several meetings regarding the sequel to Star Trek XI and co-writer Roberto Orci explained what the thought process was in deciding upon a story. “We’ve literally had two meetings now,” he said. “We haven’t decided anything but we’re starting to circle around some ideas.”

One of those ideas was something that came from fan feedback. “We got a lot of fan response from the first one and a considerable amount of critical response and one of the things we heard was, ‘Make sure the next one deals with modern-day issues,’” said Orci. “We’re trying to keep it as up-to-date and as reflective of what’s going on today as possible. So that’s one thing, to make it reflect the things that we are all dealing with today.”

Could Star Trek XII deal with the ethics of torture, terrorism or a painful, politicized war? “Well yeah, those are the kind of issues we’re talking about,” said Orci. “…That’s the way we’re thinking, that’s an approach.”

J.J. Abrams wants to make a movie that is more than just an expected sequel. “The ambition for a sequel to Star Trek is to make a movie that’s worthy of the audience and not just another movie, you know, just a second movie that feels tacked on. The first movie was so concerned with just setting up the characters, their meeting each and galvanizing that family, that in many ways a sequel will have a very different mission.”

To do that, Abrams wants to go back to that for which Star Trek was once known. “It needs to do what [Gene] Roddenberry did so well, which is allegory,” he said. “It needs to tell a story that has connection to what is familiar and what is relevant. It also needs to tell it in a spectacular way that hides the machinery and in a primarily entertaining and hopefully moving story. There needs to be relevance, yes, and that doesn’t mean it should be pretentious. If there are simple truths, truths connected to what we live, that elevates any story, that’s true with any story.”

I gather the news from many sources. Some are forwarded from CSA/CNP , some from other places. However I only relay the news. I do not discern the information as my own words , since much of it is not MY WORDS. Case-n-point, The use of the N word in a recent piece from one of the members of both the CSA/CNP as well as the Knytes. Just because someone makes that part of a historical document which it was, the word I did not utter. It was made through the member and his investigation. But the question needs to be returned. What is worse, calling me names or saying I'm a jackass, or somebody quoting a document that had the N word in it? I have my independent thoughts and I express them here as well as in our other site. I also report news of my chosen political party, but I do not make that news, again, I just report it. So don't beat up the messenger. Namely me. After all doesn't anyone remember that I subscribe to the Federation's Prime Directive? I accept all , I do not discriminate because of skin color, race, or place of origin. I judge people from their actions. After all I can readily say I have seen some Caucasians that have been just as much racist and judgmental as any Confederate. Case-n-Point, the majority religious body of both Idaho and Utah, did not allow Blacks unto the priesthood until one Black LDS member threatened to sue the church, several years ago. Church leaders then had a vision that allowed the admittance of Blacks into the priesthood. Also it may interest many to know, my second cousin Judy adopted 4 African kids and all 4 are also my kin folk. Oh yea I am racist, NOT!! See many say things without knowledge , also much of my blawgs are picked apart and taken out of context. That said the news posted here is not always my words. I just report the news. Keepin it real.

Black Codes

KNYTES THINGS HEADER

Folks,

If you’re looking for information on Northern Black Codes, you won’t find it on Google until item 65, after 7 pages of returns of 10 items to the page.

Every reference prior to that details the evil South and its Jim Crow laws, which didn’t come into being until 1890. We just can’t have the benevolent North, the freer of slaves, sullied with their sordid laws of selling free blacks into slavery for fines levied for staying in the Northern States too long.

The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 was the first blatant attack upon Southern property rights and used slavery as their oh so pious example for their ‘indignation’. It would have made no difference if the law had prohibited Southerners from transporting their goods into the territories in anything but a Studebaker or Conestoga wagon.

What it really boiled down to was, they didn’t want blacks in the North, period, unless they were Northern owned slaves. The damnedyankees made a killing off the slave trade with the biggest slave auction being in New York City. It was their ships that plied the ports of Africa and brought the slaves to the Colonies and later the US after chattel slavery was approved by the King’s Court in 1652. Prior to that date, ‘slaves’ were indentured servants and were freed after, usually, 7 years service.

That is the condition of which many of our White ancestors arrived in the Colonies.

Let’s understand something right now. Indentured servitude was the Visa or Master Card of the day. It was not slavery! Those who had no, or very little, funds signed an agreement to serve someone for a certain period of time to pay their passage. That was their indenture document.

Let’s take the fight to the damnedyankee NAACP and demand the repeal of the Black Codes of the North.

The Southern Black Codes were not implemented by Southerners or Confederates for they didn’t have the right to vote unless they had signed the damnedyankee ‘loyalty oath’. They were brought South by the carpetbaggers because they didn’t want niggers anywhere near them in either rights or accommodations.

Black Codes in Northern USA

The Black Codes were laws passed on the state and local level in the United States to restrict the civil rights and civil liberties of African Americans, particularly former slaves.

Black Codes in Northern USA – History

The history of Black Codes is complex and lengthy. Black Codes are most commonly associated with the laws adopted in the southern states after the American Civil War until the beginning of Reconstruction to regulate the freedoms of former slaves. Contrary to popular misconception though, the Black Codes did not begin in 1865. Rather they develop over the span of half a century or more and date to the early 19th century in some northern states.

Black Codes in Northern USA - Early Black Codes in the Midwest

The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 organized new territories in the American Midwest with a stipulation that prohibited slavery's expansion there:

"There shall be neither slavery nor involuntary servitude in the said territory, otherwise than in the punishment of crimes, whereof the party shall have been duly convicted".

This landmark bill would ensure that Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin would enter the union as free states. In the early 19th century, however, white laborers residing in this region and many other northern states began to fear competition from both the slave labor system to their south and also from freed slaves who relocated to these states to pursue work. Known by historians as Negrophobia, these prejudices among white residents of the Midwest prompted a call for statutory regulations and restrictions on free blacks who resided in or moved through their territory. In several cases these restrictions amounted to an outright ban on blacks from owning property, contracting, or taking up residence in certain states.

Ohio's legislature adopted one of the first immigration laws against freedmen in 1804:

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Ohio, that from and after the first day of June next, no black or mulatto person, shall be permitted to settle or reside in this state, unless he or she shall first produce a fair certificate from some court with the United States, of his or her actual freedom, which certificate shall be attested by the clerk of said court, and the seal thereof annexed thereto, by the said clerk.

The law also established a public registry system for all blacks residing in Ohio before 1804, prohibited white settlers from contracting and hiring blacks without certifications, and imposed heavy fines for violators of its provisions, both white and black. In 1807 the law was extended to require black immigrants to place a bond with the clerk of their county of residence and banned blacks from testifying in court or bringing suit against white persons.

The territorial legislature of Illinois followed suit in 1813 by enacting an outright prohibition against free black settlers within its borders:

Be it enacted by the Legislative Council and House of Representatives of the Illinois Territory that it shall not be lawful for any free Negro or mulatto to migrate in this territory, and every free Negro or mulatto who shall come into this Territory contrary to this act shall and may be apprehended and carried by an citizen before some justice of the peace of the county where he shall be taken; which Justice is hereby authorized to examine, and order to leave the Territory every such free Negro or mulatto.

The Illinois law imposed severe penalties against violators of this law. Blacks who remained within Illinois borders for longer than 15 days were to be "carried before a justice of the peace who shall order him or her to be whipped on his or her bare back not exceeding thirty-nine stripes nor less than twenty-five stripes." Like Ohio, free blacks already residing in Illinois were required to register their residence, status, and personal records with their county of residence.

Black Codes in Northern USA - The Expansion of Black Codes: 1830-1860

As the abolitionist movement gained steam and escape programs for slaves such as the Underground Railroad expanded, so did the backlash of Negrophobia among white laborers in the north. During his 1830's visit to the United States Alexis de Tocqueville reacted in disgust at the discriminatory practices northern society imposed against free blacks. He described the inequalities they faced in detail:

"It is true that in the North of the Union marriages may be legally contracted between Negroes and whites; but public opinion would stigmatize as infamous a man who should connect himself with a Negress, and it would be difficult to cite a single instance of such a union. The electoral franchise has been conferred upon the Negroes in almost all the states in which slavery has been abolished, but if they come forward to vote, their lives are in danger. If oppressed, they may bring an action at law, but they will find none but whites among their judges; and although they may legally serve as jurors, prejudice repels them from that office. The same schools do not receive the children of the black and of the European. In the theaters gold cannot procure a seat for the servile race beside their former masters; in the hospitals they lie apart; and although they are allowed to invoke the same God as the whites, it must be at a different altar and in their own churches, with their own clergy. The gates of heaven are not closed against them, but their inferiority is continued to the very confines of the other world. When the Negro dies, his bones are cast aside, and the distinction of condition prevails even in the equality of death. Thus the Negro is free, but he can share neither the rights, nor the pleasures, nor the labor, nor the afflictions, nor the tomb of him whose equal he has been declared to be; and he cannot meet him upon fair terms in life or in death." (Democracy in America, Book I, Chapter 18)[1]

Within a few short years of Tocqueville's visit many northern states began to institutionalize these practices in Black Code statutes like those found in Ohio.

Indiana's miscegenation statute, adopted in 1845, typifies these provisions:

No Person of color, Negro or mulatto, of either sex, shall be joined in marriage with any white person, male or female, in this state.

Oregon Territory adopted the "Lash Law," one of the most extreme Black Codes of the antebellum period. The law denied property rights to blacks and ordered all free blacks to immediately vacate the territory. Those who did not were to be whipped publicly every six months that they remained, hence the law's name. [2]

In several states the Black Codes were either incorporated into or required by their State Constitutions, many of which were rewritten in the 1840's. Article 13 of Indiana's 1851 Constitution stated that "No Negro or Mulatto shall come into, or settle in, the State, after the adoption of this Constitution" and ordered the legislature to appropriate funds for the colonization of free blacks abroad.

Screwed the pooch once again

a cooters blawg header A Knyte Cap

In Military aviation circles the term screwing the pooch means you missed the third wire or had a poor approach to a carrier landing. In common everyday life it means that perhaps I was not completely able to convey my thoughts through a blawg entry. On the subject of the lost cost grants for people to create their own jobs when few if any are available versus staying on public welfare rolls or SSI I thought makes real sense and cents if not dollars. Yes poor money management can make any business go in the toilet, but if Obamabeenlyintoya can rakeout zillions of dollars to AIG, GM, Chrysler among others, why not make public money available to people really trying to crawl out from under a bad economic rut? Like wise about creating a planned residential or for that matter a community, hey I never said I could do it. The thing is I saw with my own eyes a successful very successful planned community spring up on an otherwise barren desert just west of Lehi Utah, called Eagle Mountain Utah. Whether anyone wants to buy into this or not, I was there looking at putting one of my concepts into place there. I saw this group of forward thinking people put something together that has become a real town in central Utah. If it could work for them, why not the Knytes? Or just people fed up with the status quo? Have your own town, with a nice place to live, at family as well as individual, friendly prices. Eagle Mountain at the time, offered a three bedroom, very environmentally friendly home on an acre and a half of ground for around $200,000.00 after closing costs. The commercial infrastructure is yet to be completed, but I saw a city hall, fire department, police station etc go up, out on what was really worthless desert. There are many areas this same thing could work. From just on the Idaho/Utah border at what is Stevel Idaho, Plain City Utah. over in Wyoming I have seen desert ground that such a thing could bloom. I'm not saying every place can be the Hazzard we saw on TV. Or a fictional landscape that problems are solved in one to a half hour like they are on TV. But a place where one could go, to live out the remainder of ones life in peace, with some measure of trust and economic benefit. Without all the crap would be a good way to go. It's like all these folks who put up these storage garages. Sure they are great for storing your stuff, but what about building such things say 500 feet by 500 feet, with electricity and water with a toilet , rent the things for $600.00 or less, so those looking to turn a wrench for a living could at least get their foot in the door, and off SSI, and contributing to society. This is what I'm getting to. I'm not saying every enterprise would succeed, but hey it'd be a start. Its more on the line of giving a hand up, rather than a hand out. Believe it or not, there are many who like me, would love to get up in the morning, go to their own shop, and make a fair living, rather than just sit on their can watching TV.  I hate to bring this up again, but like in Utah, a forward thinking semi-retired tech worker exec, started this thing called Growing Utah Ventures. Where they took a run down bus station in Ogden Utah , and gave out low cost loans and grants to folks building technology style business's. That start up company has built some really great other start up's. So why not extend that into other types of business's? Say a media production firm, or even some person needing a very low cost office to start his or her insurance business, real estate firm, or even a barber shop? Hell even a radio station. Its called putting America back to work. Until they cain't work in their old years then if needed then get back on SSI. Many people like myself are on government money, and what SSI pays barely scratches the itch. If you rent a house or a decent apartment, at minimum of $450.00 a month, plus even if you only drank one glass of water a day, and all between the water, trash, power or gas bill, that mere $674.00 a month gets used up purtty quick. Let alone trying to maintain a cell or other phone and maybe cable TV. People in this country deserve more. Rather than bail out big companies, lets bail out Americans. Give us the ability and we can repeat can make it work.

My thoughts, I could be wrong.

Some Confederate Hazzard County Wizzdum

a cooters blawg header A Knyte Cap

Here's an idea. There are people who jump up my ass about condemning the very source of my financial abilities. Social Security, as well as the Montgomery Trust etc. But on the subject of Social Security, I had this idea, what if without killing a forest for the paper to do it, but what if the USA Government came to all on low income Social Security and said, "Hey we know your having a tuff time making it, here is a grant of say $200,000.00 go and create a company or business. We will give this to you, if in 5 years or less the business makes it you agree to get off Social Security." I'd jump at that in a New York minute. Obamabeenlyintoya bailed out I don't know how many big companies last year from AIG to GM . But what about the single or near single rural or just a person trying to squeeeze out something to enhance the mere earnings of SSI? The days of $300.00 a month shops as in my case are gone. Anything worth calling a shop is going to be in the $550.00 to $2,500.00 a month range, plus tools and equipment, is going to mean YOU rake out at minimum $20,000.00 before you even make a cent in profit. Yes there are SBA loans and so on, and if your lucky you might find someone who knows how to write a USA Grant application, but for the few of us not so gifted, a way to crawl out from under a very hard rut might be a better way to save the USA(CSA) from total ruin. Yes there are those saying the bad times are over, Hoggsbreath. The squealers are still squealing. We never saw a change just more of the same crap, and we are sinking in this quicksand faster than Enos getting hitched to Daisy.  We need a real plan. 2010 is albeit not national , but a local election season. Many issues need to be in front of voters, I say we need this kind of plan out there floating. I urge you to pass this blawg of mine onto everyone you know. Even to a few politicians that might get it in their heads that many on SSI etc don't want to be, we are there for basic survival. This is not living, its hindering real recovery. Putting people like me back to work in our own business's making our own money, paying taxes and creating jobs for others through our small business's is the way to fix this mess.

Just some Hazzard County Wizzdum.

Hazzard not a place on Earth but in the heart

a cooters blawg header

I have said this a bunch tymez before and I'll say it again in two ways. Hazzard County is not as much a place on Earth but a place in ones heart. Another view is : You can take the man out of Hazzard County, but you can never take Hazzard County out of the man. With that said, I wonder could we take Hazzard County out of Idaho? Maybe transplant Hazzard say to Utah, or Wyoming? With the increased pure unalterated bullshit that I have undergone since stupidly moved back to Idaho I'm beginning to look at ways to remove Hazzard and its graces out of a state and or area that does not treasure Hazzard as much as I do. While moving the memories and the real locations of those memories out of Idaho would be a real effort, taking Our Hazzard County out of Idaho might just be a project looking into. A few years back I was in tune to watch a community, a planned residential community spring up on the mountain desert just outside of Lehi Utah, to become Eagle Mountain Utah. Now a bubbling community. The goal of the developers was to make available a nice home, with a reasonable price tag in a private community, free from Utah's taxation etc. However Eagle Mountain never stayed private long, it became very public. Not sayin that those who made that up were all that above board but the basic idea was good. Now out on the eastern  end of Utah just outside of Morgan and to the Southside of Woodruff is an area just crying for something to happen. What if, the Knytes were to begin sniffing around and created a planned community called Hazzard, in that area. Where we could live life as WE WANT to, free of oppression and tyranny? Something I'm looking into. Just watch our Knytes site for more on this. Additionally Utah is wide open. If you look at the Mormon communities that have been created for those not in tune with the Union concept Utah might just be a state that COULD secede from the Union and become one of the Confederate States along with Arizona, New Mexico, as well as some parts of Wyoming. God may have blessed this nation , but all too many turned their backs on God and God is pee-owed. And as such we see a nation falling apart faster than Roscoe chasing them Duke boys. There needs to be a change, and that change hazz, Hazzard right in the middle of that change. My thoughts, I could be wrong.

Social Security 2009

I COULDN'T forward this FAST enough.........!!

2010 is an election year for 1/3 of the senate and 1/2 of the house of representatives. It would be nice if congress got the message; the voting taxpayers are in charge now.

Social Security  2009

LET US SHOW OUR LEADERS  IN WASHINGTON "PEOPLE POWER" AND THE POWER OF  THE INTERNET.PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS.

IT DOESN'T MATTER IF  YOU ARE  REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT!

KEEP  IT GOING!!!!

Propose  this in 2009:

START A BILL TO PLACE ALL  POLITICIANS ON SOCIAL SECURITY

------------  --------- ---------  ----

SOCIAL SECURITY:

(This is worth  reading. It is short and to the point.)

Perhaps we  are asking the wrong questions during election  years.

Our Senators and  Congresswomen do  not pay into Social  Security and, of course, they do not collect  from it.

You  see, Social Security benefits were not suitable  for persons  of their rare elevation in society .  They felt they should have a special plan for themselves So, many years ago they voted in  their own benefit  plan.

In more recent years, no congress person  has felt the need to change it. After all, it is  a great plan.

For  all practical purposes their plan works like  this:

When they retire, they continue to  draw the same pay until they die.

Philippians 2:1-2“[Imitating Christ's Humility] If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.”
